The Cuyuna Rock, Gem & Mineral Society in Brainerd, MN exists educate and celebrate the earth sciences and related geological interests. The club had a website handled by one of the members for years.
This is a common story I’ve heard quite often. The volunteer did a nice job, but over time volunteers come and go and these kinds of sites pay the price by not being maintained and updated properly.
The centerpiece of their annual effort is a large Gem and Mineral Show at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds in the spring, generally in May.
Their critical need was for folks to make payments online for several of the forms they use. So we needed to put the site in a secure environment (https) and transfer hardcopy forms to electronic ones fill-able and payable online.
The new site was built HERE and will be transferred to the regular domain name (https://cuyuunarockclub.org). This site will disappear, when we get the go ahead to switch site locations.
The old site is shown below left. I love the logo, but the main image is blurry and there were other issues requiring attention.
The Club decided the best course of action is to have a dedicated web service handle the site.
